The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. This monument is an enormous 1.8 million acres of canyons, rivers, plateaus, with some of the the most isolated, rugged, and awe-inspiring country in the world. The local communities are based on a heritage of stalwart pioneers who settled in some of the most harsh landscapes of the west. Access to this monument is only a few miles south. Visit the inter-agency office that is along the highway as you enter Escalante. There are literally thousands of hidden gems to be seen or explored.
