COMMUNITIES (see below for a directory)

Boulder is where our marathon begins. Boulder a quietly majestic community rich with green pastures and meadows. It serves as the starting point for the Scenic Burr Trail and just “over the hill” is Capitol Reef National Park. Sandstone Mesa’s and and the Boulder mountain line the horizon in this quaint community. Originally settled in 1890, Boulder was named after the nearby Boulder mountain and it’s 50,000 acres of rolling forest and meadowlands on the top.

Escalante, in addition to being the headquarters for our marathon activities and the runners end goal, is central to a variety of beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities that will keep you busy for days. Surrounded by the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and the Dixie National Forest, Escalante is located between two of Utah’s National Parks, Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef. The slot canyons Peekaboo and Spooky Gulch, the mountain meadows on the Aquarius Plateau, the hoodoo’s at Devil’s Rock Garden, and so much more are waiting for you to explore. Come and experience the serene yet adventurous country that we call home. Settled in 1875, the city is named after Silvestre Vélez de Escalante, a Franciscan missionary and a member of the first European expedition into Southern Utah.
